MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) is a long-range weapons system capable of indirect fire that has been in the Marine Corps for over a decade and has now made its way to the East Coast.

"It marks a milestone for Force Design 2030," said U.S. Marine Corps Maj. William M. Coleman, the operations officer with 2d Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division (MARDIV). "Over the last 18 months, 10th Marine Regiment took on the requirements to transition Echo Battery into a HIMARS unit."

U.S. Marines with Echo Battery, 2d Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment are the first to conduct a HIMARS deployment from 2d MARDIV to 3d MARDIV. To generate this capability, Marines had to undergo many training and readiness evaluations to adapt and learn how to operate this new weapons system.

"HIMARS adds an organic capability that has not been resident in 2d MARDIV for over a decade," said Coleman. "This also allows us to be able to provide support to joint or allied partners upon request."
