NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., - The Navy League of the United States presented the 2022 Admiral Vern Clark Safety award to Lt. Cmdr. Steve Moyer, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11’s executive officer, during the Navy League’s 2023 Sea-Air-Space Exposition in National Harbor, Md., April 4, 2023.
Moyer accepted the award on behalf of the entirety of NMCB 11, which is the first Seabee battalion to earn this distinction.
The Navy League distributes the award annually to recognize individuals, units and organizations in the Navy and Marine Corps that advance a culture of safety and innovation in reducing workplace mishaps and fatalities.
“The importance of safety is to keep our battalion ready and capable to fight at all times”, said Chief Builder Matthew Speece, who is currently in charge of NMCB 11’s safety programs. “Our people are our greatest resource.”
Additional safety awards were given to Chief Construction Electrician Brian Neilsen in Port Hueneme, California, Marine Corps Installations, Pacific, in Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan, and Mr. Michael A. James, in Quantico, Va.
NMCB 11, assigned to Naval Construction Group TWO, is homeported in Gulfport, Ms., as part of the Naval Construction Force (NCF). The NCF is a vital component in U.S. Maritime Strategy and is comprised of deployable battalions capable of providing contingency construction, disaster preparation and recovery support, humanitarian assistance, and combat operations support for regional partners and combatant commanders.
