Administrative Professionals Day is celebrated during the last week of April annually. The goal of this observance is to recognize and celebrate the work of our nation’s administrative professionals and their varied contributions to the workplace.
The observance got its start back in 1952 when U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Charles Sawyer, proclaimed June 1 through 7 as National Secretaries Week and June 4 as National Secretaries Day. In 1955, Secretaries Week was moved to the last week of April with the Wednesday of that week being marked as National Secretaries Day.
In 2000, the observance was renamed Administrative Professionals Week with the Wednesday of that week being marked as Administrative Professionals Day. The name change was implemented to encompass the extensive and diverse range of responsibilities and job titles of our nation’s administrative professionals.
Although this observance may have undergone several name changes since its inception, the initial goal to celebrate and recognize the hard work our administrative professionals do on a regular basis, remains the same.
This week, the Little Rock District would like to recognize Administrative Support Assistant, Bonnitta “Bonni” Crank.
Crank has been with USACE for over two decades, having begun her career in the Little Rock District in the Spring of 2001.
“Bonni has solid knowledge of the district’s administrative processes. She provides outstanding timely support for the unique requirements of nine offices, while ensuring tasks are performed correctly,” said Chief of Resource Management, Joyce Wilhelm.
Crank is a hard worker and her efforts do not go unnoticed.
“Ms. Bonni is an ultimate team player,” said Little Rock District Deputy Commander, Lt. Col. ChaTom “CT” Warren. “She is always focused on providing resources and support to allow other employees to do their job and she has a steadfast determination to do her job to standard each and every day,” he continued.
Although not an Arkansas native, Crank grew up close by in Missouri. She attended Jefferson City High School and enlisted in the Army after graduation. After her time in the military concluded, Crank attended Pulaski Technical College where she earned an Associative of Arts degree in Office Management.
Crank is married with two children and is a Lolli (grandma) to an adorable little girl.
When not working, she enjoys baking, reading and knitting. She has been knitting for more than 30 years and enjoys making blankets for family and friends. Her blankets are highly sought after.
“It is well documented that family and friends have had knock-down-drag-out brawls over these blankets. There were instances where a friend and her pet had a few disagreements over who got their blanket next,” she chuckled.
When asked what she has enjoyed most about her time in the Little Rock District she said, “I have had the pleasure of working with and learning from some incredible people over the years and I am grateful for that.”
Thank you for all the behind-the-scenes work you do Bonni to help take care of the Little Rock District employees!
