The Defense Health Agency’s Colorado Military Health System signed an agreement with UCHealth Memorial Hospital to increase training opportunities for military healthcare personnel to develop or maintain vital high acuity clinical skills.

Col. Edward Mandril, the CMHS Director and Evans Army Community Hospital Commander, formalized the agreement with Mr Lonnie Cramer, President and Chief Executive Officer for the UCHealth Southern Colorado Region during a partnership meeting at Evans Army Community Hospital on May 2.

“We are extremely grateful to UCHealth leadership for providing this training opportunity to our providers. This training will enable our military providers to improve the quality of life for our beneficiaries and optimize the readiness of our medical force for future military operations,” Mandril said. “I want to thank our community partners at UCHealth for helping us deliver safe, high-quality healthcare for our patients and for providing a venue to hone our military provider’s critical medical skills.”

Training will be conducted at UCHealth’s Memorial Hospital Central, a Level I Trauma Center, and will focus on critical skills like surgery, trauma, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, acute/emergency care, and a variety of ancillary services like laboratory, pharmacy, cardio-pulmonary care and radiology.

Colorado Military Health System providers will train alongside their UCHealth counterparts at Memorial Central, where they will gain experience and maintain critical medical skills from the larger volume of high acuity patients at that hospital. In addition, CMHS providers will gain and sustain service-specific individual medical readiness requirements.

“We appreciate this partnership with the Colorado Military Health System,” Cramer said. “We are excited to host this important training opportunity, which is beneficial for both parties. The more we train, the better we get.”

Military healthcare providers from Fort Carson, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Buckley Space Force Base, Peterson Space Force Base and Schriever Space Force Base, will participate in the training, which will be conducted in accordance with both Defense Health Agency guidelines and UCHealth rules and applicable regulations.
