CAMP ATTERBURY JOINT MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Ind. — After swinging into sling-load training at Hoosier Horse Park, near Camp Atterbury, Ind., Soldiers with the 3-172nd Infantry Regiment, New Hampshire Army National Guard, and the 186th Brigade Support Battalion, Vermont Army National Guard earned their certification after completing training for Aerial Delivery and Field Services Department Sling Load Inspector Certification Course. The class was taught by the Aerial Delivery and Field Services Department staff based out of Fort Lee, Va.
The 47 students were divided into teams of three, where each was responsible for hooking up the sling load, being a static guide or signaling.
During the training, Soldiers learned how to successfully and safely hook a Humvee to a UH-60M Black Hawk. Prior to lifting the 25,000-pound vehicle, Soldiers inspected the loads for deficiencies. After hooking the vehicle to the sling, the Black Hawk lifted the load into mid-air, creating a sling load. The students also learned how to prepare, rig and inspect other supplies and equipment for sling loading.
