Jericho, Vt. – Six soldiers from the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia participated in annual training at the Ethan Allen Firing Range from April 24 to May 5. The soldiers trained with the Detachment 1 Engineers, Garrison Support Command with the Vermont Army National Guard.
The North Macedonia Army and Vermont Soldiers spent the time learning to utilize heavy machinery to move earth over mountainous terrain. They also had the opportunity to work on building berms at different firing points, which would increase the safety of the training site.
U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Gregory Knight, the adjutant general of the Vermont National Guard, addressed the Soldiers from both nations on the importance of the continued State Partnership Program. “There is an incredible benefit to both nations from bilateral training opportunities,” Maj. Gen. Knight emphasized.
The SPP aims to promote military-to-military cooperation and cultural exchanges between nations. The partnership has been instrumental in enhancing the capabilities and furthering the understanding of both participating countries’ military personnel. The State Partnership with North Macedonia began in 1993. The North Macedonia Army and Vermont National Guard Soldiers continue to work together towards common goals.
