FORT HOOD, Texas -- It was all fun and games at the Fort Hood United Services Organization Thursday night.
The USO hosted a family game night with a variety of board and interactive games, as well as refreshments and snacks such as pizza, chips and candy.
Angel Hernandez, operations supervisor for the Fort Hood USO, expressed that it’s vital to let military families know they are supported.
“They need to know that it’s much more than just them serving and their families, so we want to give them this service that we have, this family game night,” he said. “The (USO) is dedicated to them so we want to let them know they’re also a part of the community. We want to make sure that they enjoy everything that Fort Hood has to offer, to include the USO.”
Sgt. Cameron Harmon, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, brought his wife Quia and children Johnathan, 14; C.J., 12; and Amani, 9, out for some food and fun. He expressed that the event was a great way for his family to spend quality time.
“It’s a good way to get out of the house and bring the family together and everybody has some food and fun,” he said. “It’s always important to save time for your family. This is a good event for us.”
“It gives our children opportunities to have fun with other children,” his wife added. “So, it’s nice to have them come out and participate.”
Games like Scrabble, Candy Land and Sorry were available for the young and the young at heart to enjoy. There were also interactive games such as bowling, giant checkers and ping pong.
Maddy Robledo and her son Antonio had fun on the ping pong table while her husband, Sgt. Lorenzo Robledo, 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, and his daughters Bella, 11, and Melody, 7, looked on.
The family is new to Fort Hood, having left South Korea just a week prior.
“It’s great,” Lorenzo expressed. “We did a lot of USO events in South Korea, and I’m glad I’m able to do it here with the family.”
Command Sgt. Maj. Jacob Huckleby, 6th Battalion, 9th Cavalry Regiment, strummed a guitar while his children Lennyn, 8, and Bradley, 6, faced off on the giant checkers board. Huckleby said it’s important for the community to come together.
“We are a small community, within the bigger community,” he conveyed. “I think bringing everybody together and providing this opportunity to come together, I don’t think it gets any better. And that’s why I enjoy the (USO).”
The Fort Hood USO hosts family game night monthly. Families are encouraged to register in advance. The event is free and open to all I.D. card holders.

Hernandez encourages visitors to stop by and get more information about the USO and maybe even take a tour.
“We want to make sure that we spread the word, not only just for family game night, but for all of our services,” he said.
