CAMP ROBINSON, ARKANSAS –Soldiers with the 224th Maintenance Company, 871st Battalion, 87th troop command supported the brigade by preparing meals throughout annual training.
Since their arrival on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, this company has served 5,780 meals. These meals are a combination of hot meals and Unitized Group Rations. Hot A’s are meals prepared by the cooks and UGRA Unitized Group Rations are heat and serve meals delivered by the army to the cooks to prepare.
“Some of the easiest things to make don’t come out the best” said Staff Sgt. Logann Ashlock. “A lot of the UGRA’s are the easiest because a lot of it is just boil in a bag or place it in the oven. But not all ways the best they are not easy to play with or make taste better.”
While these may be the least difficult option for the cooks there is little training value in it for them. However, the Hot-A meals are another matter entirely as several of the meals utilized the Mobil Kitchen Trailer or MKT. For several of the cooks it was their first time using it, or cooking outside their usual dining facility.
“On the MKT we did our steaks on there. We did our pork chops up there. All of our French toast that we did for breakfast were done out there. Basically anything that we could do on a skillet we really did up there. It has more space,” said Ashlock. “It was great place to for everybody up learn on.”
