HONOLULU – Joint Task Force - Red Hill (JTF-RH) and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment / Overseas Environmental Assessment (EA/OEA) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) and other applicable regulations and guidelines.
The Draft EA/OEA provides an analysis of potential environmental impacts associated with gravity-based defueling and relocation of flowable fuel from the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) located in Honolulu, Hawaii. JTF-RH and DLA request the public review and comment on the Draft EA/OEA.
JTF-RH will host a public meeting on June 15, 2023, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Ke’ehi Lagoon Memorial, Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Memorial Hall, 2685 N. Nimitz Hwy, Honolulu, HI 96819. The public meeting will be a forum to provide information and to answer questions as well as accept official comments on the Draft EA/OEA.
The Draft EA/OEA is located on the JTF-RH website: https://www.pacom.mil/JTF-Red-Hill/NEPA-Comment/. The Draft EA/OEA will be available for public review and comment beginning June 9, 2023 and ending June 30, 2023. JTF-RH and DLA will incorporate public substantive comments into the decision-making process.
The NEPA was signed into law on January 1, 1970. NEPA requires federal agencies to assess the potential environmental effects of proposed major federal actions and importantly, to include community input in the decision-making process.
JTF-RH is committed to working with all applicable government agencies to ensure Red Hill is defueled safely and in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, policies and regulations.
