    FORT RILEY, Kan. – The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley hosted a Victory With Honors Ceremony at 1st Inf. Div. Headquarters on Fort Riley, Kansas, on June 2,2023.
    The ceremony honored the outgoing 1ID Deputy Commanding Officer - Maneuver, U.S. Army Col. John B. Mountford. He has spent the past two years with the 1st Inf. Div., where he is now transitioning over to operate on the Army’s behalf with NATO in the United Kingdom.
    Mountford, a DeSoto, Missouri. native, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Field Artillery in June 1995 from the United States Military Academy at West Point. His previous assignments include several field artillery units such as 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Field Artillery Brigade, 18th Airborne Corps, and several advisory roles with Headquarters Department of the Army Defense Strategy; the Office of the Vice Chief of Staff Army; and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness.
    “We are grateful for the team that we have been a part of, of the friendships that we’ve shared over the last 15 months, and a community that has been a part of our family for the last 20 years”, said Mountford.
    Mountford holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership. He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College, and the United Kingdom’s Higher Command and Staff Course. He was the Army War College Fellow at Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs and a 2020-2021 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Seminar XXI Fellow.
    “My family and I are grateful and humbled to be able to have been a part of the Big Red One,” said Mountford.
