FORT CARSON, COLO. -- Brig. Gen. Isaac J. Peltier retired from the United States Army after 30 years of Active Duty service while surrounded by family and friends at the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) compound on Fort Carson, Colorado, June 5, 2023.

During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Patrick B. Roberson, Deputy Commanding General of United States Army Special Operations Command on Fort Liberty, served as a guest speaker and presiding official. Roberson recounted an anecdote where Peltier explained why he chose to serve.

“Number one, Isaac points out – he loves his country. Number two, Isaac loved being part of a profession with professionals working to be the best,” Roberson said.

Roberson wished Peltier and his family the best as he ventures into retirement. Peltier’s wife, Shannon, and his three kids Lance, Gabrielle, and Andrew accompanied him during the ceremony.

“As you see this in your rearview, other doors are going to open up,” Roberson said. “I wish you and Shannon and the rest of the Peltier clan the best. Well done, Green Beret. De oppresso liber.”

In his speech, Peltier thanked his colleagues, friends, and most importantly his family.

“To my wife, Shannon, thank you for everything. You’re the one who encouraged me to go Special Forces. You held down a career as a nurse, all while putting up with me. Amazing.”

Peltier was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal as his illustrious career came to a close. He concludes his career as the Deputy Commanding General – Operations for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command.

Mrs. Peltier was awarded the Meritorious Public Service Medal and a certificate of appreciation for her devotion to her country, husband, Soldiers, and family.

Afterwards, Peltier was given the opportunity to present his wife a bouquet of twenty-eight roses, each one symbolizing a year of their marriage.

He also gave each of his children a coin. His only daughter, 2nd Lt. Gabrielle Peltier, recently graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and gave her father a hug as she received her coin.

A Denver native, Peltier commissioned as a 2nd Lt. from the University of Colorado and served as a Field Artillery Officer in the 82nd Airborne Division before volunteering for Special Forces. While at Fort Bragg he met his wife Shannon, who was working as a nurse. They married in 1995.

After completion of the qualification course, Peltier was stationed at 10th SFG(A) and served as Detachment, Company, Battalion, and Group Commander. He also has served as Commander of Special Operations Command North at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

“What I’ll miss most about serving in the military? The people. People who are committed to excellence,” Peltier said, reflecting on his military career. “Men and women of character, who live their life by the warrior code. Who selflessly serve and sacrifice for a cause greater than themselves.”

He described being in attendance to his daughter’s graduation ceremony, where his wife and two sons pinned her rank as she was commissioned as a brand-new officer.

“Our Commander-in-Chief spoke and shook the hands of all 921 graduates,” Peltier said. “It was inspiring to see these brand-new 2nd Lieutenants step up and answer the call of duty. It was also a humble reminder that our military keeps rolling along.”

In retirement, Peltier plans to enjoy the things that bring him joy like golfing, fishing, and being in the great outdoors.
