Exercise AD23 is a collective defense exercise focused on Germany’s ability to command and control a multinational Air Force that’s operating from German airfields. Aircraft will fly in three German airspaces in the north, east and south, with each capable of supporting composite air operations.
Continual exercises like AD23 and interactions between the U.S. and NATO allies and partners provides the opportunity to work together as a seamless team to address security concerns and allow all participants to contribute to international coalitions.
“Air Defender 2023 is incredibly important. We are exercising how we will do collective defense,” explained U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Micah Fesler, assistant adjutant general – Air, commander of the Colorado Air National Guard. “The truth is we are so much stronger because we work together with our allies and our partners on a day-to-day basis.”
The United States Air Force, alongside the Air National Guard, is eager to support the training objectives set for AD23 and recognize the value of this exercise for both the participants flying in the events and those supporting from the ground. Air Defender and exercises of this nature are a great example of leveraging partnerships to deter aggression around the world.
“It is so critically important that we get together, train together, and operate together so we can show how easily we can summon that collective defense,” Fesler said.
Airmen supporting AD23 alongside their international partners, are promoting mutual trust and knowledge exchanges on a personal level between members of the armed forces of different nations while also being able to both create new relationships and strengthen existing ones.
