U.S. Army Garrison Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield held a Change of Responsibility Ceremony June 15 to bring on the new senior enlisted advisor and farewell the old.

During the ceremony, Command Sgt. Major Ely Capindo took responsibility of the garrison from Command Sgt. Major Bryan Buchanan.

Buchanan served as Fort Stewart’s garrison senior enlisted leader for 30 months.

During his tenure, Buchanan provided guidance and leadership to the installation through the COVID-19 pandemic and barracks mold concerns all while promoting and sustaining a vibrant housing community mayors program and a robust Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program.

Buchanan was the senior enlisted leader on the garrison command team led by Col. Manny Ramirez.

“His selfless service and leadership, as a trusted advisor, we are better for having you on our team,” Ramirez said.

Buchanan will now retire after 26 years of service.

Capindo comes to the Stewart-Hunter team from Camp Humphreys, Korea where he served as the senior enlisted leader of the 11th Engineer Battalion.

As he started his remarks, he joked the incoming at any ceremony only has two minutes to complete their remarks, and said he would do the same.

Capindo looks forward to supporting the Soldiers and Families of the 3rd Infantry Division.

“I know this is a power projection platform and my job is to bridge the gap between the installation directorates and the services we provide to the 3rd ID, Soldiers and Families,” he said.

The Change of Responsibility Ceremony is a tradition in the Army that honors the unit and the incoming and outgoing Soldiers.
