NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas—Naval Air Station (NAS) Joint Reserve Base (JRB) Fort Worth hosted a Civic Leaders’ Day on Jun. 1 bringing together local leaders and officials to discuss the base and the impact it has on the local community.

The day began with briefings by NAS JRB Fort Worth Commanding Officer CAPT Mark McLean, other base leaders, and Community Planning and Liaison Officer Amelia Owre who gave an introduction to the base’s mission and operations.

“Civic Leaders’ Day at NAS JRB is always a highlight. Every time I’m on the base I learn something new about the base’s crucial role in our country’s security and defense, and its economic role in our region,” said Westworth Village Mayor L. Kelly Jones. “Civic Leaders’ Day gives me the opportunity to not only learn more about the base and its command, but more importantly to interact with the outstanding young men and women securing the world’s freedom. I hope they will continue to invite me once I am out of office!”

Leaders were then given an opportunity to tour aircraft on the installation and visit the air traffic control tower. Attendees also witnessed a Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II fighter jet demonstration.

“Our team enjoys spending time on the base and the Civic Leader Day is always a great experience,” said North Texas Council of Governments Program Manager Amanda Wilson. “This year we enjoyed getting to talk to the service members flying and maintaining the aircraft operating from NAS JRB Fort Worth. Seeing an F-35 perform a vertical landing was a highlight – none of our team had seen that so close before!”

Following the tour, leaders were treated to a complimentary meal at the Dining Facility giving them a taste of the outstanding culinary services at NAS JRB Fort Worth.

“It was a great opportunity to participate in my first Civic Leaders’ Day at the Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth,” said Lake Worth Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Blackwell. “It was great to see the men and women so deeply invested in their duties in their field of service. From the pilots, air traffic control, squadron personnel and culinary service personnel, it was a privilege to hear them speak of their experiences and how they each play an important part in the military.”
