Leadership within the Reserve Information Warfare Community (IWC) came together at the Gaylord Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas for the Commander, Naval Information Force Reserve (CNIFR) 2023 Commanders Conference. The three-day event aimed to provide valuable insights, guidance and motivation to the leadership of the IWC by focusing on their roles, responsibilities and upcoming command initiatives.
The conference featured a lineup of esteemed guest speakers who shared their expertise and experiences with the eager audience. Each speaker addressed critical aspects of the information warfare landscape, empowering the attendees to excel in their respective roles.
Ms. Kathy Cleveland Bull, renowned for her knowledge in change management, kicked off the conference with an enlightening discussion. Her session focused on the importance of adapting to change within organizations. CPT Kathy Muller, Regional Commander of Naval Information Force Region North (NIFR North), commended on Ms. Kathy Cleveland Bull's presentation stating, "Ms. Cleveland Bull delivered an insightful session that emphasized the importance of adapting to change within organizations" Captain Muller further highlighted Cleveland Bull, stating, "Her expertise in organizational change management was evident and she provided valuable insights that can be applied to how to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving information warfare domain". Muller recognized the significance of Cleveland Bull's message in the context of the Information Force Reserve, noting that her session resonated with the attendees, reinforcing the need for a proactive approach to managing future upcoming changes within CNIFR.
Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 and Honorary Navy Chief, Phillip M. Brashear, son of the late Master Chief Master Diver Carl Brashear, delivered a poignant presentation on maintaining motivation and preserving a military legacy. Senior Chief Jamie Allen, Enlisted Professional Development Lead at CNIFR Headquarters, described Brashear's session as "inspiring and a powerful reminder of the personal sacrifices and legacies that Navy Reserve sailors uphold". Through sharing his experiences and family history, Brashear underscored the significance of commitment, resilience and determination. His presence at the conference served as a testament to the enduring spirit of service and the lasting impact of individuals who dedicate themselves to upholding the ideals of the Navy Reserve.
The highlight of the conference came with Vice Adm. John Mustin, Chief of the Navy Reserve, deep diving into the Khaki Rollout of the new Navy Reserve initiative called "Get Real Get Better." This groundbreaking program aims to enhance the capabilities the Navy Reserve Force. “This get real, get better training will really be beneficial as we operationalize CINFR in the near future” stated, Capt. Mark Meade, Regional Commander of NIFR South Commander stated. Admiral Mustin emphasized the importance of continuous improvement, readiness and adaptability in the face of emerging challenges by utilizing small-group practical exercises during this phase. The rollout of this initiative serves as a testament to the Navy Reserve's commitment to equipping its Sailors with the tools, resources and culture change needed to thrive.
