Tulsa District Commander, Col. Tim Hudson recently sat down for an interview with the Corpstruction Podcast. He talked about his vision for the district, and his observations as he approaches his one-year anniversary as commander.
One of Hudson's earliest efforts was hosting an offsite to develop a strategic map highlighting the way forward.
The vision produced from that offsite is "Trusted people, strong partnerships, quality projects to serve our communities and our nation."
On Trusted People:
"Our foundation is trust, both within the organization and external to the organization as well. People should look at us and say, 'That's a Trusted Agency. When we work with the Corps of Engineers, no matter who it is we can trust that they're giving us the truth, they're being transparent, they're being open, and they have our best interests in mind.'"
On Strong Partnerships
"Our projects that we're delivering both on the civil works side, and military side, or emergency management; those are all hard problems. We're responding to an emergency, we're trying to fix a levee, fix some gates, maintain a dam, respond to a flood, deliver very complex hangars down at Tinker AFB. Those partnerships are critical; there's challenges along the way; there's disagreements along the way. But how do those partnerships respond? That's critically important. For us to deliver we've got to have those strong partnerships that endure through the challenges and setbacks of any project that we're building through."
On Quality Projects
A lot of the infrastructure was built and intended to last for 50 years and a lot of it now we're at 70 years because there was quality delivery from our original teammates and folks that worked for the Tulsa District decades ago. Our projects are critical, and if it's not quality someone's going to suffer; someone's not going to do their job well, someone's going to have their house under water, equipment is not going to be able to be maintained the way it should be maintained, soldiers are not going to train correctly and Airmen are not going to train correctly. That quality is foundational to what we do. We're looking at what are some of the controls and what are the processes that we need to into place to ensure quality."
