MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Every year, Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation Air Warfare Systems and the Naval Air Systems Command Air Combat Electronics Program Management Activity (PMA) host the Digital Interoperability Working Group, known as the DI WG.

The working group brings together military and civilian experts to shape the design, acquisition, sustainment, and overall effectiveness of digital-interoperability programs such as the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Agile Network Gateway Link. This year, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing hosted the working group at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, June 27-29.

According to the 2022 United States Marine Corps Aviation Plan, the goal of MAGTF digital interoperability (DI) is to "provide the required information to the right participants at the right time, to overcome an adversary, while improving efficiency and effectiveness. MAGTF DI aims to provide greater situational awareness, accelerate the kill chain, and enhance survivability to outmaneuver and defeat the threat."

The DI WG seeks and relies on maximum participation from a select portion of the aviation community to tackle current issues and solutions to ensure future-mission success. The aviation communities are encouraged to send experienced engineers, fleet operators and maintainers to ensure their interests are represented.

“The purpose of the DI WG is to enable a collaborative information exchange between the [aviation] users [and] the supporting program offices to improve and prioritize digital-interoperability performance capabilities in the support of warfighter operations," said Brian Kelly, senior program analyst, PMA-209 Air Combat Electronics.

The 2023 DI WG consisted of presentations covering the evolution of DI-enabled capabilities and platform-integration planning, integrator briefs, operations, after-action briefs, and U.S. Naval Research Laboratory capability-design briefs. This approach provides necessary feedback to help improve digital interoperability within the aviation community for improvement toward continued success.
