FORT CARSON, Colo. -- Soldiers, friends and Families watched as the 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) colors were passed from the outgoing commander, Lt. Col. Anthony Heisler, to the incoming commander, Lt. Col. Todd Mori, at Thorne Plaza on Fort Carson, July 7, 2023.
The ceremony formally marked Mori's succession as the commander of 3rd Battalion.
During the ceremony, Col. Lucas S. VanAntwerp, commander of 10th SFG(A), recognized Heisler for outstanding leadership during his time in command of the men and women of 3rd Battalion.
"Lt. Col. Heisler, the culture you created and the credibility you built was unbelievable," said VanAntwerp. "The feeling I have is an overwhelming sense of gratitude."
Heisler reflected on his time as the Battalion Commander with words of admiration for his formation.
"There were a lot of proud moments over the last two years, and I am incredibly thankful to the men and women of this formation for everything they have accomplished," said Heisler.
Some of the battalion’s accomplishments under Heisler include being chosen to host the SOCOM commander twice, memorializing the battalion’s operations facility in honor of fallen Green Beret, Staff Sgt. Patrick Quinn, winning best detachment awards in 2022 and having a successful deployment to Afghanistan, directly supporting Operation Atlantic Resolve.
"My time here at 10th Group has been more than a privilege and an honor; it has been a gift," said Heisler in his closing remarks.
VanAntwerp acknowledged the honor and privilege it is for Mori to take command of 3rd Battalion.
"This is a huge opportunity to serve a ton of people, and if you look at it through that lens, you cannot go wrong," said VanAntwerp. "There is no better place to be and no better people to be around."
Mori expressed his commitment and dedication to the Soldiers of 3rd Battalion before taking charge of the formation.
"To the soldiers of 3rd Battalion, you are without a doubt the lifeblood of this unit—the backbone on which all of this unit's successes and accomplishments rest," said Mori. "I am humbled to be given the privilege to lead such an exceptional formation, and I promise to serve you to the best of my abilities."
