    90th Missile Wing

F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. --
U.S. Army Lt. Gen. A.C. Roper, deputy commander of U.S. Northern Command, visited F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, June 13, 2023.

Roper traveled to the 90th Missile Wing from Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, to gain a better understanding of the intercontinental ballistic missile portion of the nuclear triad and to see first-hand how F.E. Warren AFB supports defense of the homeland.

As deputy commander of USNORTHCOM, Roper assists in the homeland defense and strategic deterrence mission by anticipating and preparing for potential emergency response situations in North America. The 90 MW ICBM mission is a piece of the USNORTHCOM strategic deterrence and homeland defense mission.

“Strategic deterrence is the foundation of homeland defense,” said Roper. “The homeland is no longer a sanctuary, and strategic stability is ending. This means our readiness and resiliency is more important now than any other time in history.”

During his time here, Roper received the 90 MW mission brief from 90 MW vice commander, U.S. Air Force Col. John Hundley, and traveled to the missile field. In the field, Roper visited the Bravo-02 launch facility, where he spoke with maintenance personnel and received a tour of the facility. The team also visited the B-01 missile alert facility and Roper was able to tour the launch control center and was briefed by missileers on their mission and modernization efforts.

“We appreciate when senior leaders visit the 90th Missile Wing to see the incredible work of our talented people,” said Hundley. “It is important for us to show off the daily efforts our Airmen to support and execute the critical nuclear deterrence mission, thereby providing the strategic underpinning for the Department of Defense.”

During daily operations of organization, training and equipping, the 90 MW falls under five tiers of command and authority, including 20th Air Force and Air Force Global Strike Command. However, during response task force the 90 MW will fall under 20AF and USNORTHCOM.
