JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, New Jersey. - U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers from the 374th and 812th Financial Management Support Detachment conducted financial exercises here July 25, 2023.
The training exercise called Diamond Saber trained financial Soldiers in their day-to-day job, teaching them how to do cashiering and a variety of other jobs that would increase their readiness and hone their skills for future real-world scenarios.
"It's beneficial because not every Soldier knows how to look at their leave and earnings statement and handle their finances," said U.S. Army Reserve Spc. Bria Stevenson, a financial management technician with the 374th Financial Management Support Detachment.
"So, when they come in the office that's what we do, that's what we're here for. Most Soldiers don't learn about finance, where that's solely what we learn about."
The specialized finance training they receive here provides and hones the unique skills required to take care of other Soldiers, both on deployment and in garrison.
“It's a realistic simulation which exposes us to various types of financial transactions ranging from foreign currency exchanges to military pay related problems,” said U.S. Army Reserve Soldier Spc. Ahmad Malik a financial management technician with the 374th FMSU.
The training is designed to prepare Soldiers to be able to perform all types of financial jobs and provide services for Soldiers in need of financial help.
"It is a great motivator because we want to take care of the Soldiers who fight for our country,” said Malik. “Not getting paid could potentially hamper morale if they know that their families back home were not being taken care of," said Malik. “This training helps make sure that doesn’t happen so Soldiers and their families don’t have to worry.”
