Bangor Maine - The Maine Army National Guard recently held a send-off ceremony for the Operational Support Airlift Command (OSACOM) of Bangor, Maine as the unit deploys to Djibouti, Africa to conduct Priority Air Transport missions for approximately nine months.
During the ceremony, the Maine National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Douglas Farnham thanked the families for their support and wished the deploying Soldiers well.
OSACOM provides trained fixed wing aviation elements to perform aerial sustainment and operational support airlift in support of contingencies as directed by the National Command Authority. This includes Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance as well as supporting the U.S. Transportation Command’s Joint Operational Support Airlift Center.
In 2003, OSACOM deployed to Afghanistan conducting Priority Air Transport. They deployed to Iraq in 2008 and Afghanistan in 2013 conducting Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions. They deployed again in 2017 to Kuwait, performing Priority Air Transport across the middle east to include Iraq, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, and Oman.
