    U.S. Army Materiel Command

WASHINGTON – The 23 depots, arsenals and ammunition plants that make up the Army’s Organic Industrial Base act as a national security readiness insurance policy, supporting current readiness while maintaining the military’s ability to surge. This was the message Army Materiel Command leaders shared with Members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill during the House Depot Caucus reception, July 19.

Last year, AMC rolled out the OIB Modernization Implementation Plan: a 15-year, $18.1 billion initiative, aligned with the Army’s Campaign Plan and Modernization Strategy, to modernize facilities, processes, cyber infrastructure and the artisan workforce. The plan is AMC’s effort to maintain and sustain the next generation of Army equipment and weapons being developed by the military and the Defense Industrial Base and accelerate Total Army modernization.

“The OIB generates readiness for our Army, and it’s a large part of our sustainment mission at AMC,” said Gen. Charles R. Hamilton, commanding general of Army Materiel Command. “We’re going to have an even better OIB in the future because of our leaders here today, who are executing our modernization strategy.”

Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-PA) and Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT), co-chairs of the bipartisan House Military Depot and Industrial Facilities Caucus, delivered remarks preceding Hamilton’s OIB update to attendees, underscoring the importance of the OIB.

“Today’s increasingly complex and unstable global environment reinforces, more than ever, the importance of synchronizing and integrating our military’s capabilities and resources so that our nation can rapidly respond to any threat,” Cartwright said.

The bipartisan House Military Depot and Industrial Facilities Caucus advocates for American military depots, arsenals, ammunition plants, shipyards, energetic material production facilities and military industrial facilities throughout the nation and world. The group educates members of Congress and the public on matters of critical importance to the military depot and industrial facility community, and champions policy to keep American military airplanes flying, ships steaming, and stock moving worldwide.

“We take our depots for granted,” Moore said. “Depots are the fabric of the community they are located in – there is a pipeline to build expertise and create job opportunities in our communities because of our depots.”
