Col. Timothy M. “Splash” Strouse promoted to colonel and assumed command of the 192nd Maintenance Group from Col. Matthew R. Hummel, Aug. 6, 2023, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Strouse graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2003 and earned his pilot wings in 2005. He was chosen as a first assignment instructor pilot flying the T-6A Texan II, assigned to the 3rd Flying Training Squadron at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, and later the 8th FTS at Vance AFB, Oklahoma. In 2014, he became part of the 27th Fighter Squadron at JBLE where he fulfilled the role of assistant director of operations before joining the Virginia Air National Guard in 2015.

Previously, Strouse served as the commander of the 192nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron from 2021 to 2023. He concurrently serves as the director of current operations (A3), Joint Force Headquarters, Virginia National Guard, in Richmond, Virginia.

“To the men and women of the 192nd Maintenance Group, I am extremely proud and humbled to be back with you as your commander,” said Strouse. ”I promise you my best efforts every day. You are our nation's most experienced, proficient, and dedicated F-22 maintainers and leaders. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your team. Let’s get to work!”

Hummel separated from active duty and joined the VaANG in 2006 as a dual-status military technician. He helped lead the transition of the then 192nd Fighter Wing to Langley AFB as part of its Total Force Integration classic association with the 1st Fighter Wing. He went on to take command of the 192nd MXG Feb. 9, 2020. Hummel now serves as the 192nd Wing deputy commander.

“Splash, I am so happy to be able to hand the group off to you,” said Hummel during the ceremony. “Your passion for command and for your maintainers is infectious. The folks in AMXS [Aircraft Maintenance Squadron] know you, but to the rest of the MXG who haven't met him yet, you’ve got a great commander. He’s a leader of integrity, courage and loyalty that will work every day for you and the unit. He is absolutely the right person to guide and lead your group.”
