KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan-international security force searched a compound outside the village of Ya qubi, in the Sabari District of Khowst province, last night after intelligence information confirmed militant activity. During the search the combined force captured a Haqqani sub-commander responsible for coordinating attacks on Afghan and coalition forces. He is also accused of arranging delivery of weapons to other Haqqani networks. The combined force also detained a pair of other insurgents.
An Afghan-international combined force searched a series of compounds outside the village of Nawe Shar, in the Wali Mohammad Shaheed District of Ghazni province, after intelligence information discovered insurgent activity. The joint force captured a Taliban sub-commander accused of leading rocket attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
He has also been involved with operational planning and the movement of weapons. Another suspected insurgent was also detained.
No shots were fired and no Afghan citizens were harmed in these operations.
In other operations, an ISAF patrol found an explosives cache in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand province yesterday. The cache consisted of five mortar shells, a missile, radio, binoculars and numerous IED components.
A joint patrol in the same district found a cache containing a 108mm illumination bomb, two rockets and two 40mm bombs. The explosives were destroyed in place.
