MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, Calif. — As Tropical Storm Hilary approaches the California coast, the collaboration between the March Air Reserve Base (ARB) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is intensifying, showcasing the importance of military and civilian organizations working together to safeguard local communities.
Located in Riverside County March ARB is a linchpin for military operations and training, and is working in alongside FEMA to stage lifesaving equipment, vehicles as well as providing workspaces on the base. FEMA has positioned 20 trucks/trailers at March ARB, occupying 3-5 acres of hardstand. Additionally, there is sufficient Material Handling Equipment (MHE) vehicles and aircraft available for transloading operations. An office space has been set up to accommodate 15 personnel. While there will be no life support provided, an Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer (EPLO) will be present on-site to coordinate efforts. The Department of Defense (DOD) will oversee the provision of the necessary personnel and equipment to ensure the mission's success.
With Hilary's approach, March ARB is also gearing up to serve as FEMA's primary operations center. This strategic alignment ensures a swift and coordinated response to any emergencies that may arise from the storm's impact.
Both organizations are actively reaching out to the community, disseminating vital information about storm preparedness and emphasizing the importance of staying updated through official channels and heeding local advisories.
The collaboration between military entities like March ARB and civilian organizations like FEMA is pivotal as natural disasters occur. It melds the logistical, tactical, and strategic prowess of the military with the disaster response expertise and community-centric approach of civilian agencies. This collaboration ensures a holistic response strategy that addresses both immediate threats and long-term community recovery.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates. Residents are advised to stay informed, prioritize safety, and cooperate with local directives. Additionally, for the most up-to-date information, residents should check with their local county offices and websites.
