QUANTICO, Va. — The U.S. Naval Community College officially began accepting applications for its Associate of Science in Data Analytics program and expanded opportunities in other programs Friday, Sept. 1.
USNCC worked with Western Governors University to provide a naval-relevant degree program focused on data-driven decision-making for the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
“Using data at speed and scale increases operational readiness and warfighting advantage,” said USNCC’s President Randi R. Cosentino, Ed.D. “Our Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen can make better-informed decisions when they use data as a strategic asset. We’re excited to be a part of the foundation on which our service members become more educated in making those data-driven decisions.”
In addition to the data analytics degree, USNCC will be taking applications for its first cohort of students for two new degree programs with two new partners as well as providing an opportunity to earn a standalone Fundamentals of Nuclear Engineering Undergraduate Certificate. The Associate of Applied Science in Technical Studies is a maritime logistics degree taught in conjunction with Tidewater Community College and the Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity is taught in conjunction with Northern Virginia Community College. The Fundamentals of Nuclear Engineering Undergraduate Certificate is the professional core of the Associate of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology taught in conjunction with Alexandria Technical and Community College.
Each associate degree includes the Naval Studies Certificate, a five-course, fifteen-credit program based on naval sciences courses taught in the U.S. Naval Academy and Naval ROTC programs. These 15 credits are applied to the associate degree programs and count towards the required courses for the degree. The courses include Naval Ethics and Leadership; Modern Naval History; Naval Force Design and Concepts; Civilian and Military Organization, Policies, and American Government; and the certificate capstone course Introduction to Geopolitics.
The data analytics degree is completed completely online in a competency-based education platform and has an established pathway to a four-year degree in data analytics at WGU with little to no loss of credit. Included in the degree is the Data Analytics Foundations Certificate. The maritime logistics degree is completed completely online, includes a Career Studies Certificate in Logistics, and has a pre-established pathway to a four-year degree in leadership at Old Dominion University with little to no loss of credit. The cybersecurity degree is completed completely online, includes a Network Administration Career Studies Certificate and an Information Technology Technical Support Career Studies Certificate, and has a pre-established pathway to a four-year degree with University of Maryland Global Campus in cybersecurity with little to no loss of credit.
Active duty enlisted Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen and Coast Guard Reservists can fill out an application on the USNCC website, www.usncc.edu. The first courses will start in Spring 2023.
