CHANTILLY, Va. — Members of the military community throughout the National Capital Region celebrated the U.S. Air Force’s 76th Birthday Ball at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Sep. 16.

The ball, which was hosted by the 316th Wing at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, is a time-honored tradition where the military community joins together annually in celebration of the military members who serve in the profession of arms, and remark on their contributions to national defense.

The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is the companion facility to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Hundreds of historically significant air and spacecraft, along with thousands of small artifacts, are on display in the center's open, hangar-like setting.

“I’m super excited to welcome more than 1,300 people here tonight, between the incredible volunteers, childcare workers, venue staff, military members, and families,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Todd E. Randolph, 316th Wing and installation commander. “I am thrilled to spend this time together and enjoy this spectacular night of honoring and celebrating 76 years of our United States Air Force.”

Randolph later introduced the keynote speaker for the event, Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall. Kendall emphasized that even though there are going to be challenges ahead and work to do, he is confident in the ability of the Air Force and Space Force to do what is required of them.

“If we so fail, we risk our safety, our people, our very way of life,” said Kendall. “We shall not fail, the U.S. Air Force shall not fail.”

The event also included dinner, dancing, a performance by the U.S. Air Force Band Strings and a performance by the U.S. Air Force Drill Team.
