FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. -- Sgt. Julian Singleton, a resident of Dover, Delaware, serves two vital roles in his life. When not in uniform, he works to keep clients’ finances healthy in his occupation as a financial advisor. When in uniform, and serving in the National Guard, he works to keep Soldiers’ bodies healthy.

Combat medics, like Singleton, often deal with a wide variety of ailments presented by Soldiers and need to always make themselves accessible for the administration of care.

“Our job is preventive medicine, so my whole goal is to make sure that Soldiers are functioning mentally, physically, even emotionally sometimes,” said Singleton.

Beyond his professional commitments, Singleton is a passionate cyclist, gearing up for a challenging 100-kilometer ride in Pittsburgh this coming fall.

“I’m really excited,” said Singleton. “I enjoy doing outdoor things such as running and cycling, and I just learned how to ski.”

Health and fitness are important aspects of Singleton’s home life. When in the field or at a training event, he makes his rounds and checks on his fellow Soldiers to make sure they are staying healthy, too. That includes the section crews of Charlie Battery, 1-107th FA.

“I love being with a field artillery unit,” said Singleton. “You get to go out and learn about the guns and sometimes hop in on their training.”

Singleton has been serving in the National Guard for nine years, following in the footsteps of some of his close family members.

“My dad was a Marine and my older brother was in the Army and has served in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Singleton. “When I initially joined, they were nervous, but now they are very supportive.”
