Lt. Cmdr. Olivia Wittman, September's Sailor in the Spotlight for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), brings a wealth of shipboard experience to her role as assistant project manager for USS San Antonio (LPD 17).

The Waterfront Operations Department, Code 300, administers ship modernization and repair contracts on ships assigned to US Fleet Forces Command in the Atlantic Fleet. Code 300 serves as the central point of contact for customers and Ship’s Force on all matters regarding ship and boat repairs.

“The Waterfront Operations folks work so incredibly hard,” said Wittman. “Ship repair never stops. I have learned so much just from my short time with them.”

Wittman joined the Navy in 2013 after earning her commission through the ROTC program at the University of Rochester. She has served two sea tours, inspired by her grandfathers who were both military officers.

Wittman’s first duty station was aboard USS Shoup (DDG 86) in Everett, Washington. After earning her Surface Warfare pin as the Damage Control Assistant, she then transferred to USS The Sullivan’s (DDG 68) in Mayport, Florida.

“I was the Fire Control Officer aboard The Sullivan’s, so I owned the Aegis Combat System,” said Wittman. “I worked with very talented Aegis fire control men and developed a love for our modern combat systems in the Navy.”

Sean Greenaway, the Waterfront Operations Manager for MARMC, has worked extensively with Wittman for 18 months and spoke highly of her work ethic and reliability throughout their working relationship.

“Wittman’s performance as the project officer for the complex USS San Antonio availability has been nothing short of outstanding,” said Greenaway. “Her efforts have significantly upgraded the warfighting capability of LPD 17 and include improvements to Cryptologic Warfare Systems, Surface Search Radar capabilities, Engineering Control Systems and Ships Self Defense Systems. Lt. Cmdr. Wittman can be counted on when needed most and I would not hesitate to give her the most difficult and challenging work. She is positive proof that Navy leadership has a bright future.”

Originally from Millstone Township, New Jersey, Wittman is an avid reader of graphic novels and also spends time working on her professional development. When she’s not working, Wittman and her wife, whom she married in 2018, love spending time outdoors with their four-year-old.

“After this tour, I will be heading to the beltway to work for the Program Executive Office of Integrated Warfare Systems,” said Wittman. “I’ll be working with Aegis systems integration and testing on our destroyers to ensure we are meeting the needs of the fleet.”

Wittman’s distinguished service with San Antonio and MARMC demonstrates her commitment to keeping our Fleet mission-ready. As the September Sailor in the Spotlight, she exemplifies the skill and dedication of our nation's Sailors.

With leaders like Wittman overseeing maintenance operations, the Navy can continue meeting its defense objectives today and well into the future.

MARMC, a field activity under Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), provides surface ship maintenance, management and oversight of private sector maintenance and fleet technical assistance to ships in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
