A recent combined training exercise between the United States Army's 135th Forward Resuscitative and Surgical Detachment (FRSD) and the three Medical Officers from the Republic of Korea's Armed Forces continues to strengthen the partnership between the two countries' military forces.
The training focused on Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET) Plus and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), covering combat-related surgical techniques and life-sustaining skills. During a Simulated Training Exercise (STX), all trainees were tested on their abilities to assess, resuscitate, and treat trauma patients in challenging conditions, such as minimal lighting and supply constraints, while facing simulated gunfire and other distractions.
The training allowed both countries' military medical professionals to showcase their proficiency in trauma care and demonstrate their ability to work together through the physical and mental challenges of providing care in combat. The two Koreas are still at war, and the potential for armed conflict still exists.
With continued collaboration and training, the U.S. and the Republic of Korea's military forces will be better equipped to handle any challenges that may arise in the future.
