MOHAMED NAGUIB MILITARY BASE, Egypt - U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Zakary McAteer, combat engineer, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, was nominated as a Renowned Reservist during Bright Star 23 at Mohamed Naguib Military Base, Egypt, Sept. 14, 2023.
“The Marine Corps has been a huge part of my life and shaped the way that I am as a person,” said McAteer. “It has taught me how to work with others and to complete tasks as a team by coming up with a plan and ensuring mission accomplishment.”
McAteer works as a builder with Fleming Homes in Lebanon, Tennessee, which consists of coordinating logistical duties, and overseeing and working on construction.
“What we do in the Marine Corps can be stressful sometimes, but we learn to trust each other and work together as a team to accomplish a mission, and that’s very similar to my civilian job,” said McAteer.
Bright Star 23 was a multilateral U.S. Central Command exercise held with the Arab Republic of Egypt across air, land, and sea domains that promoted and enhanced regional security and cooperation, and improved interoperability in irregular warfare against hybrid threat scenarios.
