MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. –Military officials selected Col. Joseph Galvin as the All-Marine Coach for the 2023 Marine Corps Marathon Weekend in Washington, D.C., Oct. 26-30.

Galvin, 51, is currently stationed at Marine Corps Installation-East, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, with Headquarters and Service Battalion.

“Leading this team and representing the Marine Corps is a way to develop camaraderie with my fellow Marines and the other armed service members,” said Galvin.

The 1995 Central Michigan University alumnus has been the coach of the All-Marine Marathon Team for the past eight years.

“Running for the All-Marine Running Team for the past 19 plus years has enabled me to stay connected to the young Marines and introduce them to the plethora of opportunities that the Marine Corps has to offer,” explained All-Marine Marathon Team Coach Col. Joseph Galvin.

“Leading this team and representing the Marine Corps is a way to develop camaraderie with my fellow Marines and the other armed service members.”

Galvin, a 1991-graduate from Sparta High School in Sparta, Michigan, commissioned in the Marine Corps on April 4, 1997. He has run more than 25 full marathons.

“It is extremely difficult to make the All-Marine Marathon team,” said Semper Fit Sports Operations Officer Capt. Miles Coats, a native of Lacey, Washington. “Prospective athletes must pass a variety of highly competitive application requirements; making the final roster is of the highest honor.”
