MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. –Military officials selected Capt. Mollie B. Geyer as an All-Marine Athlete for the 2023 Marine Corps Marathon Weekend in Washington, D.C., Oct. 26-30.
Geyer, 33, is currently stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, with I Marine Expeditionary Force.
“When asked to run the Marine Corps Marathon representing the Marine Corps, I couldn't say no,” said Geyer, “I remember serving water at one of the aid stations as a brand new lieutenant in The Basic School and the incredible energy of the runners and the crowd, the iconic course that goes by all our national landmarks, and the opportunity to race for my service were all too good to pass up.”
The 2012 Naval Academy alumna is one of 10 Marines who will make up the 2023 All-Marine Marathon Team.
“Running for the All-Marine Running Team for the past 19 plus years has enabled me to stay connected to the young Marines and introduce them to the plethora of opportunities that the Marine Corps has to offer,” explained All-Marine Marathon Team Coach Col.Joseph Galvin. “Leading this team and representing the Marine Corps is a way to develop camaraderie with my fellow Marines and the other armed service members.”
Geyer, a 2008-graduate of North Hills High School in Pittsburgh, commissioned in the Marine Corps on May 29, 2012. This will be her first full marathon.
“It is extremely difficult to make the All-Marine Marathon team,” said Semper Fit Sports Operations Officer Capt. Miles Coats, a native of Lacey, Washington. “Prospective athletes must pass a variety of highly competitive application requirements; making the final roster is of the highest honor.”
