MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. –Military officials selected Capt. Anthony S. Malatesta as an All-Marine Athlete for the 2023 Marine Corps Marathon Weekend in Washington, D.C., Oct. 26-30.

Malatesta, 29, is currently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352.

“Ever since commissioning my goal was to run on the All-Marine team,” said Malatesta, “This will be my second Marine Corps marathon but my first one as a Marine. I ran the 2013 MCM as a midshipman at the Naval Academy and was inspired to try to keep up with the lead All-Marine runner, I hope I can inspire current Marines and midshipmen in this year’s race.”

The 2016 United States Naval Academy alumnus is one of 10 Marines who will make up the 2023 All-Marine Marathon Team.

“Running for the All-Marine Running Team for the past 19 plus years has enabled me to stay connected to the young Marines and introduce them to the plethora of opportunities that the Marine Corps has to offer,” explained All-Marine Marathon Team Coach Col. Joseph Galvin. “Leading thisteam and representing the Marine Corps is a way to develop camaraderie with my fellow Marines and the other armed service members.”

Malatesta, a 2012-graduate of Chatham High School in Chatham, New Jersey, commissioned in the Marine Corps on May 27, 2016. This will be his sixth full marathon.

“It is extremely difficult to make the All-Marine Marathon team,” said Semper Fit Sports Operations Officer Capt. Miles Coats, a native of Lacey, Washington. “Prospective athletes must pass a variety of highly competitive application requirements; making the final roster is of the highest honor.”
