SAN DIEGO – Commander, Naval Surface Forces (CNSF) hosted a Maintenance and Sustainment Summit, Oct. 24 and 25 with a focus toward the on-time delivery and sustainment of ships, a key component of Surface Force readiness.
The two-day event, which brought together senior Navy and Marine Corps officers, government civilians, and representatives from industry, sought to address the challenges of ship repair, material readiness, and to develop solutions aimed at enhancing the sustainment of surface force combatants.
The principal goal of the summit was to identify ways to eliminate barriers that stand in the way of delivering mission-capable ships out of maintenance to meet the Surface Force’s North Star objective of 75 mission capable ships.
Joined by Acting Commander, Naval Surface Forces, Rear Adm. Yvette Davids; Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic, Rear Adm. Joseph Cahill; and Rear Adm. William Greene, Navy Regional Maintenance Center Director, Surface Ship Maintenance, participants discussed the collaboration and alignment of surface ship sustainment initiatives, including sustainment capacity, data analysis techniques, maintenance strategies, sparing investments, and the future readiness requirements of the Surface Force. This year’s summit focused on key sustainment issues across 13 ship classes with focused engagement with industry partners.
“The readiness of the Surface Force remains our top priority,” said Davids. “These summits enable our teams to build relationships and collaboration with government and industry necessary to achieve our North Star objective of 75 mission capable ships and beyond.”
The Sustainment Summit is a key component of the Surface Warfare Enterprise, which serves as the coordinating body for representatives across the surface maintenance and sustainment community.
The mission of CNSF is to man, train, and equip the Surface Force to provide fleet commanders with credible naval power to control the sea and project power ashore.
