Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 624th Civil Engineer Squadron assigned to the 624th Regional Support Group participated in Pacific Angel 23, Arkhangai Province, Mongolia, Aug. 20 to 26, 2023.
“Pacific Angel builds relationships and stronger ties with our allies and improves the lives of thousands of people, while preserving peace and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific,” said Tech. Sgt. Victor Reinares, 624th CES.
The purpose of Pacific Angel 23 is to build humanitarian assistance and disaster response capability through cooperation between the United States, host-nation militaries, civilian medical and engineering personnel as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development.
“I feel very fortunate to have been a part of PAC Angel. It gave me the opportunity to put my job skills to the test and make a positive difference in people’s lives,” said Staff Sgt. John-David Iaea, 624th CES. “Our team was able to befriend local civilians who were so kind to share their customs and culture with us. It was a privilege to be part of such an important exercise and would be happy to do it again.”
While in the Jargalan, Mongolia, the 624th CES collaborated with the Mongolian Armed Forces and renovated a school by sanding, applying stucco and painting classrooms. They also leveled, repaired and resurfaced courts with over 100 bags of concrete mix. Additionally, CES replaced electrical outlets, switches and panels throughout the school grounds.
“It was a great opportunity to help people less fortunate than us, learn their way of life and experience the culture and homes,” said Staff Sgt. Christian Weldon. “Being prepared is important, you just can’t run to the local hardware store and grab materials and tools because you forgot something.”
PAC Angel 23 missions include search and rescue, general and dental health, emergency response triage and care, casualty evacuation, infectious disease control, engineering programs and airfield operations and repair.
