SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California National Guard stood in solidarity with students and partnering agencies throughout the state to honor the life of Special Agent Enrique (Kiki) Camarena for National Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31.
Bright red ribbons and motivational posters decorated school grounds throughout the state as CalGuard civil operators hosted a wide range of drug prevention education events.
From helicopter static displays to trunk-or-treat celebrations, the Drug Demand Reduction Outreach civil operators found creative ways to share the National Red Ribbon Week theme, "Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free."
Recently, the Southern California-based DDRO team was recognized for their education efforts in the youth communities and awarded the Deb Nixon Education Award by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Since January, the San Diego team has trained 33,545 kindergarten through high school students in drug prevention education, a total of 64,389 curriculum hours.
CalGuard's civil operations team continues to commit to this national effort by supporting adolescents and partnering agencies statewide.
