CAMP KOSCIUSZKO, Poland – U.S. Army Staff Judge Advocate attorney for V Corps Forward and accomplished violinist, Capt. Michael J. Su accompanied the Representative Orchestra of the Polish Air Force at Zespol Szkol Technicznych in Tarnowo Podgorne, Poland, on Nov. 10, 2023.
"Around one year ago, we invited Su to play Henri Wieniawski's Legende, Op. 17 violin arrangement," said Maj: Paweł Jok, conductor for the Representative Orchestra of the Polish Air Force.
Su said his collaboration with the orchestra started developing in January 2022 when he went by the orchestra headquarters to listen to a rehearsal.
"Paweł and I discussed what sort of collaboration could happen," Su said. "To my surprise, there was a piece we could play."
During the cultural celebration held on Poland's 105th anniversary of Regaining Independence, Su's violin complemented Wieniawski's arrangement, conducted by Joks.
"Su's preparation was excellent," Jok said.
"I've played with many professional violinists, and certainly Su comes out on top," Jok said. "Su is very professional, and the orchestra was impressed with his abilities. His natural intuition for Polish music makes us think he has a Polish grandfather in his family tree."
The cooperation with the Americans at Camp Kosciuszko is extraordinary, Jok said.
"I'm pleased with the American collaboration," Jok said. "Our door is always open to any further cooperation."
Su accompanied the orchestra on violin and is looking forward to more opportunities in the future.
