The battle commenced at 2:02 p.m. as the Kansas State Wildcats faced off against Baylor University’s Bears in their 21st all-time bout.
Prior to the start of the game, military police showed off static displays on the outskirts of the stadium to give the community a peak into what it’s like to be a Soldier.
“It's very important for us at Fort Riley to be engaged with the community, we have to show support for our community because they show support for our service, so we get out here engage and have a conversation with the community to build comradery and relationships,” said 2nd Lt. Ethan Davis, platoon leader in the 977th Military Police Company, a unit operating out of Fort Riley.
Thousands of people flooded the stadium, it was another sold out home game for Kansas State.
During the opening ceremony, as The Star-Spangled Banner played, Kansas State supporters unraveled an American flag the size of the field. As soon as the national anthem concluded, four AH-64E Apache Attack Helicopters flew over the stadium, kicking off the start of the game.
The Soldiers matched the score of the game point for pushup while Kansas State took their lead over Baylor. When the dust settled, Kansas State came out victorious, beating Baylor with a score of 59 to 25.
“This is an amazing opportunity for us to come together with the community on Veterans Day, to participate in a game like this is also a great opportunity for the community to show support for Fort Riley, there’s 150 Soldiers in the stands today it’s just great,” said Command Sgt. Maj. John Derek Noyes, command sergeant major of 1st Infantry Division.
Kansas State walked away with another win under their belt and the Soldiers of Fort Riley walked away having experienced an excellent game in their honor, further strengthening the ties that bind them.
