FORT MOORE, Ga. − Fort Moore welcomed Santa Clause to kick off the holidays as he entertained a crowd of Soldiers, Families, and friends during the 33rd annual Airborne Tower Lighting Ceremony Dec. 8.
Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade, hosted the event for families living on post and community members from the Chattahoochee Valley area to learn more about the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Moore.
The event featured activities, demonstrations, and displays set up around Eubanks Field for attendees to learn how Soldiers at Fort Moore do their jobs and contribute to the community.
"My favorite part was watching Santa Clause riding on the Army Jeep instead of reindeers," said Shirley Hughes, an Army and Air Force Exchange Service employee. "My daughters were so excited. [The Soldiers have] done a wonderful job."
Attendees had opportunities to experience first-hand how it feels to jump from a 34-foot tower, take photos with Santa, watch a Silver Wings parachute team demonstration, and a military working dog demonstration and more, bringing the installation and community together.
Spc. Jaden Higgins, a military working dog handler with the 904th Military Working Dog Detachment, answered questions from attendees. “We do events like this, not just in December, but throughout the year,” said Higgins. "It's just fun to get out in public and show everyone what these dogs can accomplish."
The 250-foot tower will remain lit throughout December, spreading holiday cheer throughout the installation.
