In an effort to decrease wait times for Marines receiving and returning gear, the Consolidated Storage Program at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune will modernize its appointment system and consolidate its Individual Issue Facility (IIF) with the gear return facility already located in Building 1211 on Birch Street, beginning Jan. 18, 2024.
The change was planned with the benefit of the warfighter in mind, said Ana Ayala Spivey, project officer, Consolidated Storage Program, Marine Corps Installations East-MCB Camp Lejeune.
“We want to ensure that we’re staying in touch with changing times, with what the Marines expect from us,” said Spivey about the change.
“We will convert this current issue facility into a distribution center, where all the distribution responsibilities will be conducted,” said Spivey. She explained that by consolidating both facilities into one, and relieving personnel from distribution tasks, employees that work at Building 1211 will be able to focus on one thing; supporting the warfighter.
The IIF has provided Marines assigned to MCB Camp Lejeune items such as cold-weather gear, Kevlar helmets, and body armor.
“Our number one priority is ensuring that we provide the best customer support for the warfighter,” said Spivey. The Consolidated Storage Program is also developing a modernized appointment system in order to increase the accessibility for Marines seeking to schedule an appointment at their facilities. “With changing times, we’re thinking of better ways to serve the Marines,” said Spivey. Marines tend to think that going to the IIF is a tedious task that will result in long wait times; Spivey is planning to change that mentality.
With technological advancements, the Marine Corps and its installations are evolving in order to enhance the readiness of its warfighters. Changes such as this consolidation and a future appointment system will increase the effectiveness of MCB Camp Lejeune Marines, enabling them to be field and deployment-ready much faster.
