    107th Attack Wing

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Col. Andrew Carlson, commander of the 107th Attack Wing spoke with members of the Aero Club of Buffalo about the 107th and it's mission during their December monthly dinner meeting, Dec. 14, 2023. Carlson had the opportunity to talk about his Air Force journey, the 107th ATKW mission, the MQ-9 Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft and the accomplishments of the 107th Attack Wing for this year.

Carlson started off his speech by giving his background in the Air Force which included his graduation from the Air Force Academy and attending The George Washington University. Carlson has more than 2,300 flight hours and has flown multiple aircraft, including the MQ-9, the 107th's currently assigned aircraft.

He continued his speech to the members of the Aero Club of Buffalo by discussing how every member of the 107th Attack Wing is critical to mission success. “We have a very well-trained team,” Carlson said. “They are very good at what they do.”

Carlson then discussed a big milestone that the 107th hit this year. Members of the 107th Operations Group remotely piloted an MQ-9 Remotely Piloted Aircraft to Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station for the first time in August of 2023. “Community efforts really helped to make this happen,” Carlson said. “This milestone was pivotal for the 107th," as it shows the flexibility and adaptability capable from both the 107th members and the aircraft itself.

To close out his speech Col. Carlson discussed the roles our airmen have played out in the community such as the 107th medical groups’ response to Covid-19. He also referred to the Christmas snowstorm that hit Buffalo last December, and emphasized the wings' role in being one of the first to make it into downtown Buffalo during the storm.

“This is our opportunity to help out our communities and our neighbors,” said Carlson. “We’re always happy to help our fellow neighbors, it’s extremely rewarding.”

The dinner concluded with Col. Carlson being presented a small trophy from Mary Mattocks, President of the Aero Club of Buffalo, for being the guest speaker at the dinner meeting.
