The 512th Airlift Wing received the Chief Master Sergeant James K. Clouse Trophy Award March 1, during the 4th Air Force Awards Dinner in Riverside, California.
Gen. D. Scott Durham and Chief Master Sgt. Israel Nunez, the commander and command chief of 4th AF, presented the award to Col. Douglas Stouffer, 512th AW commander, and his team of five wing representatives. The award recognizes units that enhance maintenance readiness, improves maintenance efficiency and reduces waste by encouraging excellence in all maintenance areas.
“I am so proud of the hard work, dedication and Total Force Integration on display in the 512th Maintenance Group,” said Stouffer. “They are extremely deserving of this honor, and it’s a testament to the exceptional Airmen assigned here and the quality work they do every day.”
Fourth Air Force is the largest numbered Air Force in Air Force Reserve Command and is comprised of 34,000 Airmen. The 512th AW topped 18 wings for the maintenance honor.
The Reserve unit’s accomplishments include generating eight critical C-17 Globemaster III aircraft in support of Operation Allies Refuge, which evacuated 120,000 Afghan and NATO personnel. The maintenance unit’s innovation efforts produced an annual savings of $6M by overhauling 36 landing gear struts and bogies, which reduced their time-change requirements. The Dover-based unit drove Air Mobility Command success in Europe by de-icing 451 aircraft and leading 2,800 maintenance fixes, which secured the transport of 4.8M 1bs of cargo worldwide.
The 512th AW has earned its name on a perpetual trophy found at Fourth AF and brings home an engraved trophy for permanent display on Dover Air Force Base. The 512th AW also earned the Chief Master Sergeant James K. Clouse Trophy for 2017.
