U.S. Air Force Maj. John "Chico" Coy, assigned to Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and a native of Chicago, is currently serving on a deployment to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait as part of the Central Command Deployment Distribution Operations Center.

CDDOC utilizes a small team of logistics subject matter experts from each branch of the Armed Forces to optimize the movement of troops, supplies, weapons, vehicles and other DoD cargo to Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas within the United States Central Command's area of responsibility.

Coy, a C-130 Weapon's Officer, hit the ground running at CDDOC by traveling on site surveys to Bagram, Afghanistan and Manas, Krgyzstan. His duties include minimizing delays at the airlift passenger hubs in Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition, Coy will work an intra-theater airlift channel that allows U.S. forces to move on regularly scheduled Air Force and contracted carrier flights throughout the Central Command area of operations.

The director of CDDOC is Air Force Major General Robert McMahon. His CDDOC team includes a staff of 64 personnel, including several personnel forward deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. The operations center merges experts from U.S. Transportation Command, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Army Materiel Command, Defense Logistics Agency, and service components. Together, they plan the most efficient and timely movement of supplies to troops.

CDDOC moves supplies throughout an area of operations that includes 27 countries ranging from Egypt to Kazakhstan. Within that 6.5 million square mile area, CDDOC supports Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom through focused operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Uzbekistan.
