U.S. Air Force Col. Dana Morel, assigned to the Pentagon and residing in Lorton, Va., is currently serving on a 4 month deployment to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait as part of the Central Command Deployment Distribution Operations Center.
CDDOC utilizes a small team of logistics subject matter experts from each branch of the Armed Forces to optimize the movement of troops, supplies, weapons, vehicles and other DOD cargo to Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas within the United States Central Command's area of responsibility.
Morel is the Future Operations Director at CDDOC. She leads a team that forecasts future transportation requirements and movements. Through researched historical data, planned unit deployments, and future planned sustainment movements, her team determines how to best plan future logistics for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. During Morel's tour, she will be heavily involved in the U.S. forces drawdown in Iraq and simultaneous surge in Afghanistan.
The director of CDDOC is Air Force Major General Robert McMahon. His CDDOC team includes a staff of 64 personnel, including several personnel forward deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. The operations center merges experts from U.S. Transportation Command, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Army Materiel Command, Defense Logistics Agency, and service components. Together, they plan the most efficient and timely movement of supplies to troops.
CDDOC moves supplies throughout an area of operations that includes 27 countries ranging from Egypt to Kazakhstan. Within that 6.5 million square mile area, CDDOC supports OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (now called OPERATION NEW DAWN) and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM through focused operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Uzbekistan.
