U.S. Army Lt. Col. JoAnn Meacham, from Reno, Nev., is currently serving on a deployment to New Kabul Compound, Afghanistan as part of the Central Command Deployment Distribution Operations Center.

CDDOC utilizes a small team of logistics subject matter experts from each branch of the Armed Forces to optimize the movement of troops, supplies, weapons, vehicles and other DOD cargo to Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas within the United States Central Command's area of responsibility.

Meacham works directly with NATO partners and the Afghan military to transport NATO forces and cargo into and out of Afghanistan. Due to limited airfields, no direct access to seaports, security concerns, and diplomatic challenges with neighboring nations, Afghanistan presents a massive logistical challenge. The direct coordination by Meacham and her team ensure that all U.S. and NATO forces get the right stuff at the right time.

The director of CDDOC is Air Force Major General Robert McMahon. His CDDOC team includes a staff of 64 personnel, including several personnel forward deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. The operations center merges experts from U.S. Transportation Command, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Army Materiel Command, Defense Logistics Agency, and service components. Together, they plan the most efficient and timely movement of supplies to troops.

CDDOC moves supplies throughout an area of operations that includes 27 countries ranging from Egypt to Kazakhstan. Within that 6.5 million square mile area, CDDOC supports OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM through focused operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Uzbekistan.
