The conference examined the roles, realities, and responsibilities of Noncommissioned Officers within the challenging workforce dynamics.
An estimated two hundred people attended SELCON24. It was designed to explore high-tempo training, ongoing deployment cycles, and increasing technological capabilities.
Partnerships stood in the form of The United States and Pacific nations such as Tonga, Vanuatu, Timor Leste, Fiji, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. Representatives from Britain and Canada also attended the conference.

Through panel discussions, audience members were able to ask questions pertaining to regional military forces. Panel members contributed to the quality of the dialog.
When asked, “As a senior NCO, how can we identify mental health issues in our soldiers and do they lack resilience?”

Sgt. Maj. Of the Army Michael R. Weimer expressed, “Resiliency is a term that has been thrown around lately…you don’t make it to a certain point in your journey and then stop building resiliency, its apart of the journey.” We’re pivoting and trying to focus on the spiritual, mental resiliency, so that you actually have some of it, when life throws you a crucible.”
Command Sgt. Maj. Scott A. Brzak, USARPAC’s senior enlisted advisor, and guest speakers shared their knowledge. He stated he wanted noncommissioned officers to understand the importance of building upon professional relationships.

“Learning other countries cultures and values leads to more effective training events amongst partners and allies. Maximize opportunities to learn from joint services, and finally and most importantly don’t be afraid to make mistakes during training”.

The Sgt. Maj. of the New Zealand Army Warrant Officer Class One Wiremu Moffitt provided advice concerning the enlisted force.
“How to educate and develop the force? You make humans better, if you make better humans, you make better Soldiers….It is important to understand who you are in and out of the uniform, once you’ve placed yourself in a better state, the quality of leadership will follow,” said Moffitt.

SELCON24 enhances regional military capabilities by diving into the core of army leaders to move as a collective force effectively. The conference provided a platform to share experiences and perspectives among the NCO Corps.
