BROWNSVILLE, Texas-- National Guardsmen assigned to Joint Task Force Lone Star, along with law enforcement partners, seized 105 pounds of marijuana this week.
On March 2nd, 2024, Guardsmen tracked five men illegally crossing the border carrying two bundles of drugs. The guard notified law enforcement partners of the incident. The criminals cut through concertina wire and were trying to climb over the border wall with a ladder when guardsmen intercepted the activity. The men abandoned the bundles and turned back into Mexico.
The Guard assisted law enforcement in the seizure of the bundles. According to law enforcement officials, the seized cannabis is valued at nearly $85,000. National Guard engineers repaired the breach and reinforced the area with anti-climb barrier and razor wire.
The Texas National Guard, in conjunction with state and local law enforcements partners is dedicated to preventing, deterring and interdicting (PDI) transnational criminal activity and illegal migrant crossings along the Texas and Mexico border.
