KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan national security forces with International Security and Assistance Force partners captured several suspected insurgents March 18, including a senior improvised explosive device facilitator, near Baluzay, Sangin, in Helmand province. After surrounding a compound in which suspected insurgents were located, Afghan forces called for the people to come out. After questioning, several men were detained, and 60 kilograms (132 pounds) of opium was confiscated.

This was the latest in a series of operations to eliminate the IED threat against the Afghan people and Afghan and ISAF troops in the Sangin area.

Five women and 27 children were protected throughout this operation, in which no shots were fired and no civilians were injured.
