HINESVILLE, G.A. – Matias Rodriguez, a Bradwell Institute senior, will be awarded the $180,000 Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Marine Option Scholarship at Bradwell Institute, Hinesville, Georgia, 5:00 p.m., May 6, 2024.
Students selected for this scholarship program have competed against other applicants in various tests including the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), and Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT) which is composed of a maximum set of pull-ups, a 3-mile run, and holding a plank.
Rodriguez earned the scholarship after getting a score of 79 on the ASVAB, 1160 on the SAT, and 270 out of 300 points on the PFT.
The NROTC scholarship enables students from different backgrounds and walks of life to earn their degrees, receive leadership skills, and cover the costs of college. These costs include full tuition, books, and a monthly allowance.
With this scholarship, Rodriguez plans to pursue his Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice.
After earning a four-year degree, winners of the NROTC scholarship receive a job immediately post-graduation in the form of a commission as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
